FAQ

Is Virtual Education right for your student?

If your student can say yes to each statement, then virtual school may be right for your student:

  • Taking into consideration my personal, academic work, and extracurricular  activities (clubs, sports, etc), I will be able to devote as much or more time to my online class, as I do my traditional studies.
  • I am comfortable using the internet as a means of communication and research
  • I own or have access to a computer with internet access and email.
  • I am able to learn and apply new software applications.
  • I am able to prioritize tasks, organize assignments, and complete assigned work within a deadline.
  • I believe my reading, writing, and communication abilities are above average.
  • I learn best when I read the directions, rather than an instructor lecturing and giving verbal explanations.

Are there requirements to enroll as a Lake County Virtual School student?

Yes, please contact our main office to receive more detailed information if you are planning to explore virtual education options for your student(s).

Enrollment Process

Will I receive a personal email or phone call when my student is enrolled?

We completely understand the frustration of not being able to get through on the phones and emails. If you have filled out the enrollment form, account set up form, and (if requred) course selection, your student is being enrolled as we speak. With the large number of students enrolling there is no possible way for our limited staff to send out individual emails and answer all phone calls. If anything is missing we will contact you. But we will still make sure your student is ready for the first day of school.

How do I receive my account information?

We are using the FLVS curriculum for grades k-12. You should get an email from FLVS.net to complete the set up for grade k-5 or to reset your password for grades 6-12. If you have not received this email, we are still working on those. Please be sure the email we have in our system is correct and that all student information is entered correctly. If an email address is invalid or any student information is out of place, this will cause a delay.

Why is no one returning all of my emails and voicemails?

Due to the high volume of calls, we can't get to each call individually. Our main concern at this time is making sure our students are set up with their account and have classes ready to begin their coursework. With the large number of calls and emails, we are trying to prioritize them as needed. Thank you for your patience during this time.

We have already missed the deadline for enrollment due to the lengthy enrollment process. Will my student be penalized?

We are aware that the first day of school was scheduled for August 23 for most students. However, due to high volume of student enrollment, we are still deep in the enrollment process for many students. No students will be penalized or will fall behind, due to the enrollment process.

Chromebooks

Where do I get my child’s Chromebook?

You will get your Chromebooks from your zoned school.  This will be the case even if you are new to the district.  You will need to fill out the form to get your Chromebook.

What do we do if we are having issues with our Chromebook?

If you are experiencing technical issues please visit the Lake County Schools Start of School mini site and fill out the service form. Someone will assist you promptly.

Communication and Updates

Why is no one returning all of my emails and voicemails?

Due to the high volume, our main concern at this time is making sure our students are set up with their accounts and have classes ready to begin their coursework. With the large number of calls and emails, we are trying to prioritize them as needed. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Can I use Facebook Messenger to get in touch with LCVS?

LCVS is accepting communication through Facebook Messenger. However, we are still overwhelmed with calls and emails. It may still take a while for us to get to your questions. When you are messaging, please include your student's name, grade, and DOB so that we can assist you quickly.
